A glassmaking region
Lusatia has a tradition of glassmaking that combines craft with industrial production. In Weißwasser, the Oberlausitzer Glaswerke J. Schweig & Co. were founded in 1889, forming part of the history of Stölzle Lausitz.
Machine production joined mouth-blown manufacture during the twentieth century. Drinking glasses combine the design of bowl, stem and foot with technical precision.
The Glass Museum in Weißwasser preserves regional glass and explains the development of production. Visit the museum’s own website for current visitor information.
