White gold from Saxony
Johann Friedrich Böttger and Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus are associated with the research behind European hard-paste porcelain. Augustus the Strong founded the Meissen manufactory in 1710, with its first production site at Albrechtsburg Castle.
Artists including Johann Gregorius Höroldt and Johann Joachim Kändler helped develop porcelain painting and sculptural design. The crossed swords have served as a trademark since 1722.
Figures, vessels and decorated tableware reveal the combination of shaping, firing and painting. For current collections and visitor information, consult the manufactory directly.
